Starting Strawberries From Seed

Strawberries are amazing! We all want them, but they are a little bit challenging to grow here in Dallas Texas. In most parts of Texas they are treated as annuals. By that I mean, that you plant little plants in the Fall, enjoy a crop in Spring, and then trash them and start over again next Fall. Why? Because STRAWBERRIES HATE THE HEAT!!

When most gardening “know-it-alls” say strawberries like full sun they don’t mean TEXAS full sun! They mean California full sun, which are two totally different things!

Watch the video and see the variteties I grew and how I got my strawberry plants through the Summer heat.

I started my strawberries indoors under grow lights in January with my tomatoes & peppers. They took a long time to show their tiny little green leaves, but took off after that. I did not get fruit that first Spring season, but am expecting beautiful little strawberries in the Spring this year.

Here are the links to the varieties I planted by seed:  https://www.rareseeds.com/tresca-strawberry/  &  https://www.rareseeds.com/attila-strawberry/

What strawberry variety do you like here in North Texas & how do you plant them to get a successful harvest? Let us know in the comments. We can all help each other be successful!

Please leave a comment. I love hearing from ya’ll.
