Planting Tomatoes; PPP= Success!

by | Mar 11, 2020 | Front Yard Garden | 6 comments

It’s time to plant tomatoes in North Texas! Our growing season is so short here that we have a window of March 15-April 1st to get those baby plants in the ground! We need to get those root systems established before the hot hot weather moves in. Remember your blossoms will NOT turn into juicy ripe tomatoes once the night time temps rise above 75 degrees.

I remember this planting time for tomatoes with this saying: Don’t be foolish & wait till after April fool’s day to plant your tomatoes! (in North Texas, Dallas, Ft. Worth area)

If you do this then you must remember PPP= Plant early & be Prepaired to Protect!

Last possible frost date in our area is April 15th! So get out those milk cartons or 5 gallon buckets to protect your babies with! If you want to read an indept article check out my blog post here If you like to see it in video, I’ve got you covered. See video below.

If you have started plants by seed then congratulations. I bet you have some fun varieties, like me!

The new varieties I am excited about this year are: Sunrise Bumble Bee Cherry, Cosmic Eclipse & Tasmanian Chocolate! Share with me in the comments what new varieties you are excited about this season.

If you need to buy starts North Haven Gardens has plenty of varieties to choose from, but hurry because they sell out fast.

Now days,on my blog, I say a lot: “Why tell you, when I can show you!” So watch the video so that you can use my formula of PPP to help get those ripe, juicy, wonderful red orbs for yourself and your family!

I am wishing a season of tasty tomato juice dripping off of your chin in the garden & your favorite garden helper running out as soon as the sun is up to pop those tasty oval fruits into his or her mouth!

Let me know in the comments if you have any super power tomato growing secrets! Don’t forget to let me know what new varieties you are excited about this year in the comments!

Happy tomato growing! Dash & garden helpers

Looks like a great idea and I’ll see if I can come up with some of that for our garden. Our efforts this year are drastically reduced from previous years for various reasons, but we still managed to get tomatoes and peppers in the ground. I have high hopes for next Spring, but this one’s a little disappointing.

I can so relate! I have had those years! Some years you just do what you can do.

Hi Diane, here is an article I wrote about planting tomatoes. Maybe you will be able to get more from it. I like reading articles myself, but I have found we are in the minority. Most people don’t have the attention span to read anymore! https://bloomwhereyourplanted.com/its-tomato-time-in-north-texas/
    Hope that helps. Blessings, Dash
