My Own Personal P.R. Department in Full Swing and Planting Fall tomatoes!

I have always thought that it would be amazing if I had a full time public relations specialist working for me 24/7. I mean think about it, wouldn’t it be wonderful to have someone showing all your good points to your neighbors with none of your bad. This person would work tirelessly to highlight all your amazing accomplishments, while pushing under the rug the not so amazing stuff. He would make you look G-O-O-D, GOOD!

Well, it came as a revelation to me that I already have that! I have a whole front yard P.R. department working for me even as I sleep! It doesn’t get any better than that, people! I am talking about the flower border in front of my front yard garden.

Pictures for video intro
My Favorite picture from the front yard flower border. My P.R. department!

I remember when the city was reviewing the whole front yard fence concept. Everything hung in the balance. The lady looking at my white picket fence(made out of free pallets) asked, “Can you put a flower border or something in front of it?” Ha! You and I both know that it is not that simple. After all, the week before, that flower border area was solid grass and weeds! However, I smiled and said, “Oh, you are not going to believe the transformation come Spring!” Don’t tell anyone, but I had my fingers totally crossed behind my back.  As soon as they left my eyes rolled up to heaven and I prayed, “Oh Lord, we are going to need a miracle here, for sure and for certain. I hope you are listening because after all, this was your idea all along.” Well, as usual my Father was listening and He was ready to do the fighting for me, through the beauty of flowers of all things!

Winter gardening 2016 002
My Front flower border that first Winter. Pretty bleak.

I put down some old 4×4 posts that my neighbor gave me, some cardboard snatched from the back of Tuesday Morning and LOTS of free bark mulch from a tree trimming company. I am not going to kid you, coming into that first Winter things looked bleak in front of my garden.

Community came to my rescue! One neighbor gave me El Gallo, the rooster, a metal artwork of proud proportions! Another neighbor gave me a scarecrow, hat and orange pumpkin pots to really bring in the Fall. Community saved the day.!

Fast forward to Spring; seeds were sprouting and things were starting to look up in the P.R. department. Everyday it seemed a new little plant was donated to the front flower bed. I received Stella de Ore day lilies for my birthday. Echinacea, iris and lantana joined the crew. Whenever I saw a flower I liked I would jump out of my car and pinch off a few seed heads. My kids thought I was crazy! Who knew, at the time, it would turn into an amazing show of bee buzzing, butterfly sipping flower border that people would come up and ring my doorbell to tell me how much they loved it! There is just no denying a miracle when it is right in front of you or in this case in front of your front yard veggie garden. We made a video of the best P.R. department anyone could wish for. Thank you to my Father in Heaven, my sister, friends and neighbors who brought love and made it bloom right in front of our eyes!

In the video my best garden helper and I also plant new Fall tomato plants. We talk about the difference between Hybrid seeds and Heirloom. We also chase a wild rabbit out of the garden! Never a dull moment at Bloom Where You’re Planted, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Hoping you have a P.R. department working for you as you sleep! Happy gardening, chicken chasing, rabbit raising and community building!
