Join me in the garden as I finally get my garlic bed back from the comfrey beast! I have help in the garden as a friend joins me to plant 3 different types of garlic. Keep in mind when you plant your garlic; it will be in that garden space until late May/early June. So leave room for your Spring crops elsewhere in the garden.
My friend loved it in the garden. Seeing her wonder made me appreciate how rejuvenating and healing being in the garden is! Enjoy:
If you have never planted Elephant garlic, you should! It sends up a beautiful purple globe bloom that reminds me of something out of Dr Suess. It is more mild tasting than regular garlic, but delicious. Here is a link to a post I did about the best varieties for North Texas. I also explain the difference between soft and hard neck garlic. Time to Plant Garlic in North Texas!
I am so late getting mine in- but I’m STILL going to take my chances, and plant it anyways. We lost our garlic to rot about halfway in this year, so at the very least, I’ll still have time in the spring to buy more if this lot fails (and I’ll only be out $1 and change, no biggie!). We go through garlic like crazy- maybe we can try out some elephant garlic the following year- you make it sound amazing!
