Bobcat Attacks the Homestead!

I sit here and stare at the computer screen and realize that I am at a loss for words. I just lost half the farm in one fell swoop. Thursday was a REALLY LONG day for us here at Bloom Where You’re Planted. It just went on and on……

It started with the sound of squawking. I looked out to see a bobcat pouncing on one chicken, shaking it, throwing it to the side and pouncing on another. The breakfast buffet was open. It all happened so fast! Man that is a big cat!

Thank you to my “Knight in Baseball Cap and Jeans”, who jumped out of the shower to come to my aid! (Don’t worry he put some clothes on) Thank you to my boys, who came up out of a dead sleep, to load weapons they are not allowed to use in the city. The “Wild One” had the creature in his sights on top of the fence, but obeyed the order of stand down. We live on a busy corner in a big city. It was rush hour. Not worth it.

Thank you to my close friend that took me out to look at chicks the next day. We are starting over. I am thankful for new beginnings. That sound of chirping chicks is music to my ears.

That is all the words I have for now. I will let the video speak for its self.

Please leave a comment. I love hearing from ya’ll.

How scary! And in the middle of a city too! I’m so sorry about rain cloud. I was getting emotional for you here. We had a mom Bobcat with three babies come looking for the wild rabbit burrows (that happen to be near our house) this past winter. But we had just moved and had nothing outside. We also have 5 acres that butts up against 320 acres of conservation land.

Oh Dash. I am so sorry to hear that. And to not be able to shoot it, that’s terrifying. Could have been so much worse!

Oh Dash, I’m so sorry! It’s so hard to lose livestock in one fell swoop like that. I’m amazed that the bobcat was IN the city and IN your backyard. Hopefully it won’t find your homestead again. Praying for you as you deal with this and recover from the experience.

This is so terrible. I am a backyard farmer too. Chickens are so sweet and lovable. I know your family is devastated. I was even terrified watching it across the street! So sorry, Lisa

Thank you Lisa, It was hard to edit the video! I kept putting it off so I didn’t have to watch it again. I know, chickens were the beginning of the homestead for us.
