SNOW DAY!!!

by | Mar 5, 2015 | Backyard Chickens

You northerners please don’t hate me, but we get so little snow, that it is something of a magical frozen playground for us! There is nothing more fun than kids and snow. They come in red cheeked and breathless, ready to refuel and go back out again.
As for the garden, it is all snug and safe under frost cloth: Beets, swiss chard, lettuce and spinach. The chickens really did not know what to make of the white stuff under their feet!

This is the best we could muster for a Texas size snow man! My kiddos put it in the freezer so it would last longer. So funny!

On a serious note, there were what appeared to be coyote prints all along the outside of our fence. Someone was looking for a chicken dinner or rabbit stew! If you want chickens you must have a way of securing them for the night or they will get picked off one by one even in the city. Check back; my next post will be about how I built my coop and got started with backyard chickens.

Please leave a comment. I love hearing from ya’ll.
