Being Part of a Bigger Plan

When I am not coming up with articles and videos to inspire you to grow your own food, I am coming up with original content for a different blog. I am proud to say that I am part of an amazing Urban farming team. Greg Peterson started a front and backyard garden/orchard in Arizona and works in his community to inspire others to become self sustaining. He named his garden the Urban Farm. https://www.urbanfarm.org/

Greg is one of the people that I really look up to and am inspired by. There are people in this world that feel passionately about something. Maybe they feel it is their lives purpose to protect the environment, rally against pesticides or fight against GMOs.  These people protest and educate, and I am not saying there is not a place for that, but I am saying that it can get kind of negative.

Then there are those people that take the positive route of inspiring others, teaching others, one person, one group at a time to grow their own food. Greg is one of the leaders in this positive movement of teachers that keep moving forward toward a future of you and me growing our own organic nutritious food! You can tell I think the world of this man. In fact I told him the other day, “Greg, I have to continually work not to put you high up on a pedestal, but I won’t do it because that can be a long way to fall.”

If I could map out my future it would include many of the programs he has in effect now, only here in Dallas. From Urban farm tours to seed saving classes to wholesale fruit tree programs, he has it going on at the Urban Farm! My dream is to be an inspiration for my community, not just in writing and videos, but hand and feet, seed exchanging greatness! It has become clear to me, that when you get to that point, it takes a village.

There are many working parts to this team, from behind the scenes podcast editors to urban farm animal experts.  I am sooo honored to be part of that village. So, this week I am going to link up to one of the articles that I have written for the Urban Farm U in Arizona. After you read the article stay around a while, listen to a few podcasts and be inspired!

How to Cut the Cost of Raising Your Flock

Stay tuned in the coming weeks from more from the Urban farm as I announce the news that Kari Spencer, our very own urban farming expert, when it comes to raising animals in an urban setting, has written her first book! I will be reviewing her new book with a give away for one lucky winner!

Here at Bloom Where You’re Planted we are gearing up for Winter gardening. Hoping to have a video out any day about how to garden through the Winter in Dallas Texas. The Average date of first freeze is looming up on the horizon of November 16th! Just when you thought the gardening season was over ….. think again, Winter gardening Rocks!

Please leave a comment. I love hearing from ya’ll.

I have met Greg and attended one of his tours in Phoenix. I’m so glad you plan to implement the same in TX. Way to go! I am inspired by both of your courage and commitment. I cannot urban farm in my current home, but hope to have my own homestead in the coming years. I will use your and Greg’s resources and thank you in advance!

Hi Nicole, So cool you got to meet him in person. I haven’t been able to meet him in the flesh yet. I hope to someday. I am glad you have a goal for a homestead that you have the freedom to farm on. It is sooo rewarding. It has its ups and downs for sure, but overall I am so glad I did it. Thanks for your encouraging words!

    Congratulations on the new opportunity!
